Welcome Volunteer Nicky

Posted on: Wednesday, March 30, 2011

The Healing Center is dependent upon the in-kind, talented donations of our volunteers.  Board and Advisory Board members, graduate interns, and clients all volunteer there time, passions and energy to make The Healing Center available to more and more grieving families.  These in-kind donations are the backbone of our organization.

It is with great pleasure that we introduce you to one of our newest volunteers, Nicola (Nicky) Tannion.  Nicky first heard about The Healing Center through a fellow student at Antioch University, Seattle.  After completing the volunteer training program in November 2010, she was invited to volunteer with our Teen Group. Our Teen Group meets every other Monday and typically has 6-10 teens participating.

When asked why volunteering at THC was important to her, Nicky answered, “building and supporting community is of key importance to me, with particular interest in both personal and community grief and loss.  The Healing Center does amazing work, I see first hand the impact that this organization has on the lives of teens. This is the reason why I chose to extend my volunteer time and offer administrative and fundraising support. Volunteering both in group and in the office offers me a unique opportunity to speak clearly at how priceless The Healing Center’s place in the community is.”

You will see Nicky volunteering at THC and at the May Day Walk and if you call The Healing Center and you are greeted by a lyrical accent you will know you are talking with Nicky.  Originally from Australia, she has lived in both the UK and the Netherlands for extensive periods of time. Since June 2006, Nicky has been living and studying in Seattle, and has just completed her BA in Liberal Arts with a double major in Psychology and Spiritual Studies from Antioch University Seattle.

Congratulations Nicky and thank you so much for your time, energy and talents.
